Advisory

Every student is assigned an advisor when they begin Middle School. They will normally remain with that advisor for their entire stay at Middle School. The advisor is the student’s personal helper and ombudsman, the “friendly ear” and “problem solver.” The advisory group, usually comprised of 20-25 students, all in the same grade, meets formally for the first eighteen minutes of each day. This is the “house” which provides a secure environment for the developing adolescent. Many activities are held during the year in which the advisory is the basic unit to help develop the sense of team or family within the group.

The advisor becomes involved in all facets of the student’s school life and often is able to help with personal problems as well. In most cases the advisor comes to know the student better than any teacher in school since he/she sees him/her daily for their entire Middle School career. Parents are encouraged to contact advisors with questions or concerns.
